Hugh Bigler Jr.

Hugh P. Bigler, Jr. went to be with the Lord on July 4th, 2019. Hugh was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 8, 1929 to Hugh P. Bigler, Sr. and Virginia Kent Proctor Bigler. He earned a B.S. Degree in Agriculture from Alabama Polytechnic University (Auburn University) in 1954, and then enlisted in the Army to serve on active duty from 1954-1956 at Fort Totten, NY. Hugh continued to serve in the Army Reserves from 1956-1963, while he earned a second degree in Education.

Hugh had a career of over 40 years as a teacher in the Ordnance Missile and Munitions Center and School (OMMCS) at Redstone Arsenal until his retirement in 2003. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and a long-time resident of Madison, AL. His love for the Arts included dancing with Huntsville Ballet Company as the Grandfather in the annual Nutcracker Ballet and listening to classical music. At the age of 55, he married his one love, Ruby Nell Kramer, and they had a very happy 35 years together. He believed strongly in his faith, his country, and his family.

Hugh was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Virginia Kent Bigler Jones. He is survived by his wife, Ruby Nell Kramer-Bigler; stepsons Douglas Kramer (Manette) and Kelly Kramer (Pam); stepdaughter Susan Kramer Steinhauser (David); nephew Ben Kennedy; niece Katy Crow; six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Hugh supported and encouraged help for the aging and homebound. Memorials can be sent to CASA of Madison County or Mt. Zion Baptist Church to support Rocket City Missions.
