John Runyan Neergaard

John Runyan Neergaard passed away on July 16, 2020 at the age of 75 in Hattiesburg, MS.  He was born in Bristol, VA on May 12, 1945 to the late Fred Runyan Neergaard and Francis (Sensaboy) Neergaard.  He grew up in Fountain City, TN where he attended Central High School.  He attended the University of Alabama where he received his Ph.D. in physics.

After spending time in Huntsville, AL, he moved to Columbia, MS where he lived the remainder of his life.  He taught physics for a time at William Cary in Hattiesburg.  He was an admirer of classical music and particularly enjoyed the works of Bach and Mozart. 

John Neergaard was a kind and gentle man, and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Francis Neergaard.  He is survived by his sister, Claudia Hanberry (James) of Columbia, MS; brother, Allen Neergaard (Diane) of Virginia; son, John Runyan Neergaard of Port Orchard Washington; daughter, Linda Neergaard Parker (David) of Madison, AL; grandchildren, Sabrina and Gabriel Ross Neergaard (Port Orchard, WA), Lauren Parker (Columbia, MD), and William and Jordan Parker (Madison, AL); nephew and nieces, Phillip Hanberry (Brice), Melanie Neergaard, and Lauran Ashworth (Jerry) and two great-nieces, Julia and Sydney Ashworth.

Due to COVID-19, the service will be for immediate family.  We will hold a celebration of life at a later date when the family can come together
