Maureen L. Geist

November 8, 1939 — November 27, 2020

Maureen Linda Geist (nee Stanford) of Huntsville, AL, passed away on November 27, 2020 at the age of 81.  Maureen was born to Leland and Charlotte (nee Agrati) Stanford in New York City.  Her family moved to Oak Ridge, TN, where she graduated from Knoxville Catholic High School. She continued her education at Aquinas College in Nashville, TN and was a teacher for many years. She was a devoted member of St. Joseph Church in Madison, TN, where she loved teaching the second graders and preparing them for their sacraments in the church’s Religious Education program for over 20 years.  She continued her career as a legal assistant and retired from the Tennessee Office of Attorney General in 2007.  She moved to Huntsville, AL, to be closer to her children and grandchildren and was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Madison, AL.  Maureen loved gardening, quilting, sewing and knitting but her greatest joy was her fifteen grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons, Robert Geist (Jennifer) of Huntsville, AL, and Tommy Geist (Adrienne) of Gainesville, GA and daughters Mindy Mayer (Marcus) of Roxboro, NC; Susie Wittig (Dan) of Nashville, TN; and Amy Strickland (Matt) of Madison, AL and grandchildren, Amelia Geist; Lilly Geist, Grey Geist, Rilla Geist, Luke Geist, and Knox Geist; Jordan Mayer, Matthew Mayer, Cait Mayer, and Abby Mayer; Lauren Wittig and Miles Wittig; and Joseph Strickland, Caroline Strickland and Thomas Strickland. She is also survived by her brothers Michael Stanford (Nancy), Greg Stanford, and sisters Cherry Cardi (Cesare), Judy Murphy (Mike), and Anita Stanford and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be held on December 2, 2020 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Madison, AL, at 12 noon.  The funeral will be live-streamed and available on facebook/stjohnbchurch.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).  The family would like to thank the loving staff of Brookshire Healthcare Center and Good Samaritan Hospice for taking such good care of our mom and Nana.
