Theresa Mae Safarino

d. February 24, 2022

Theresa Mae Safarino lost her valiant fight against the insidious Covid-19 virus in the early evening of February 24, 2022, at Madison Hospital ICU, in spite of the heroic efforts of the Doctors and Nurses who attended her. Theresa was born and raised in small town America, Wilton, Iowa. Through her life all her actions reflected the values of the Heart of America.  Her core values were evident in her choice of profession as a registered nurse graduating from St. Joseph School of Nursing, Iowa.  Theresa had a lifelong empathy and concern for the wellbeing of others, whether known or unknown to her. She consistently demonstrated that concern over the course of 30 years of nursing, 10 years of which were in the Emergency Room. Theresa treated all her patients with motherly care and attention.  For Theresa, Nursing wasn’t a job, but a dedication to a vocation.  Theresa also later worked as a database administrator for USASAC located in the HQAMC building in Alexandria, Virginia during the 80’s and 90’s, where she met her husband James Safarino, to his great profit. They married on June 12, 1999.

Theresa was known for her many loves: of her husband, her family, her many cats, cooking and her trees and plants. Theresa was an avid nature and animal lover, and her Country. Thresa was always a dedicated Patriot.  Theresa was wonderful woman, a perfect wife, and a humorous down to earth, thoughtful, and considerate companion.

Theresa was preceded in death by her sister Martha Walker of Fargo, ND and her son Eric Schuttler of Raleigh NC.

Theresa leaves a family devastated by her loss: her Husband of 22 years James Safarino of Madison AL; Sister Kathy Harris of Longwood, FL; Son William Schuttler and his wife Deanna  of Willowspring, NC; Daughter-in-Law Christine Schuttler of Raleigh, NC; Son Nicolas Catt of Hershey, PA; Four grandchildren Erin, Amelia, Charlie and Jeremey Schuttler; Brother-in-Law John Safarino of Virginia Beach, VA ; Sister-in Law Ann Valure and her Husband Larry Valure of Virginia Beach, VA; And Theresa’s four faithful friends and feline companions Muffin, Stewie, Paulie and Duncan.
