Michael Jay Nevin, 74, of Madison, Alabama passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2022. 

Mike is preceded in death by his parents John and Violet, and one brother Kevin.

On October 18, 1968 Mike married the love of his life Candace Lynn Lacey. They celebrated their 53rd anniversary last year. Together they have two sons, Will and Greg Nevin. Mike and Candy also have three grandsons, Junior Ibanez (wife, Angel), Ayden, and Quinton. They also have two great granddaughters Samantha and Caylee.

Mike was raised in Fort Morgan, Colorado. He graduated from high school in 1965. The following year, Mike joined the U.S. Army. Some of his qualifications include Initial Entry Training, Engineer Officer Candidate School in July 1967, Rotary Wing Qualification in September 1968, Fixed Wing Qualification in March 1970, Engineer Officer Advance Course in May 1974, U.S. Army Command and Staff in December 1979, U.S. Army War College in June 1986, and Senior Officer National Security at Harvard in June of 1990.

Some special assignments included the 48th Assault Helicopter Company in Vietnam, Advisor to 224th Engineer Battalion, Commander of Joint Task Force Eureka (California and Panama), and many more. Mike ultimately retired from the U.S. Army after serving 31+ years as a Colonel.

After retirement from the U.S. Army, Mike worked primarily as a Christian missionary on water projects in Central America and with a dedicated mission in Haiti. While settling in Madison, Alabama after “retirement,” Mike and Candy have moved 23 times during their marriage. Candy can manage a move!

Mike will be dearly missed by many.
