Elna Weatherbee Lewis

June 27, 1953 — September 23, 2022

Elna Weatherbee Lewis, beloved wife, mother, Grana, sister, aunt and friend, went to be with her Lord on September 23rd, 2022.  She lived an abundant 69 years of life.

Elna was born Elna Weatherbee on June 27th, 1953 in Cameron, TX to Harold Weatherbee and Nina Faye (McCutcheon) Weatherbee.

A proud Razorback, Elna graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1975, where she was introduced to her loving husband of 45 years, John. After meeting on a blind date, John and Elna were so certain of their love and commitment to one another, they were engaged 5 weeks after their first meeting and married 8 months after their engagement.

She was a dedicated Army wife for over 20 years and found gratification in being a teacher at the majority of their stationed locations.  After John’s retirement from the military in 1997, Elna was delighted to become the librarian at Bob Jones High School where she was able to share her love of reading and thirst for knowledge with students on a daily basis.

Elna was sustained by the love of her family, and her faith in God.  She was a dedicated member of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church where, among other things, she loved singing in the church choir and cherished being a Daughters of the King member.

She treasured making travel memories with her family, relished a good historical-fiction book, enjoyed partaking in intellectual political debates and found immense happiness in the friendships she built with those around her.  However, in her most recent years, Elna’s greatest joy came from her cherished role as Grana.

Elna is preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, John L. Lewis.  She is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Watson (Jason Watson), Megan Kathleen Wilson (Seager Wilson), grandchildren Jenna and Benjamin Watson, sister, Laura Weatherbee, sister, Jana Weatherbee (Steve Lipson) and several nieces/nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Matthews Episcopal Church (Madison, AL) or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
