Christo Efstratios Spyropoulos, 88, of Madison, AL, passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2024. He was the son of the late Reverend Eustratios Spyropoulos and Angeliki (ne Varvitsiotis).
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 29 years Conda Ann Lenox Spyropoulos; sisters Athena Yachnis and Evangeline Anton; brothers Constantine, George, and Paul. He is survived by his brother Nicholas (Joanna); step daughters, Kim Blackmon (Jeff) and Robin Blackmon (Randy); and grandchildren Collin Condron of Richmond, VA, Bridge Condron of Brooklyn, NY, Sarah Buckelew of Madison, AL, and Kaleb Buckelew of Portland, OR. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Chris was born June 24, 1936 in a small village in Sellasia, Laconias, Greece and moved to the United States with his family at the age of 3 in 1939. He became a permanent US citizen in 1953 and graduated from George Washington University in 1959 with a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering. He served in Korea with the US Army from 1960 -1962, with decoration as a Rifle Marksman, and served an additional 4 years in the US Army Reserves. He worked as a civil servant for Harry Diamond Laboratories, where he was awarded numerous patents and authored multiple scholarly papers. He retired in 1988.
He married Conda in 1995 in Falls Church, VA, where they lived until they moved to Madison, AL in 2002. During his retirement years he enjoyed gardening, hiking, listening to classical music, and keeping up with current events. He loved Greek foods and often provided direction in the kitchen for preparation of the traditional Greek dishes he remembered from his childhood.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Hospice of North Alabama.
Graveside service with Military honors will be Saturday July 20 at 10:00am at New Canaan Baptist Church in Somerville, AL.
