Conda Ann Lenox Spyropoulos

April 27, 1940 — May 7, 2024

Madison

Conda Ann Lenox Spyropoulos, 84, of Madison, AL, passed away peacefully at home in the presence of loving family at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, May 7, 2024. She was born in Union Hill, Morgan County, AL, the daughter of James and Vernetta Lenox.

She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Chris Spyropoulos; two daughters, Kim Blackmon (Jeff Condron) and Robin Blackmon (Randy Chamberlin); and four grandchildren: Collin Condron of Richmond, VA, Bridge Condron of Brooklyn, NY, Sarah Buckelew of Huntsville, AL, and Kaleb Buckelew of Portland, OR. She survived seven siblings: Roberta Bowling, Sue Curlee, Matthew Lenox, Albert Lenox, Herbert Lenox, Lester Lenox, and James (Jimmy) Lenox; and her first husband Bobby Joe Blackmon, the father of her children.

Mrs. Spyropoulos had a lifelong interest in education.  She received a B.A. in General Studies in 1968, making history as a member of the first graduating class of the University of Alabama, Huntsville, serving as Secretary of the Senior Class, and presenting the Senior class at graduation.  She went on to receive Masters degrees in both English and Music, also from UAH.  She made use of her education throughout her life when she taught middle school English and then high school Chorus in Arab, Alabama.  After her move to the Washington DC area, she worked in administration at Catholic University, and subsequently worked in charge of Fundraising for the Women’s Center in Vienna, VA for women’s education, workplace rights, and social causes.

It was in the Washington DC area that, through a hiking group, she met her beloved husband, Chris Spyropoulos.  They married in 1995 in Falls Church, VA, where they lived until they moved to Madison, AL in 2002. Upon retirement, Mrs. Spyropoulos spent much of her time as “Grandmother par Excellence,” frequently cooking for, helping out, and enjoying time with her husband, children, and grandchildren.  She took an active part in her extended family’s life, attending many sporting and hobby events of her grandchildren, as well as creating hundreds of delectable meals to enjoy together with her family, including special Greek dishes introduced by her discerning husband Chris.

She enjoyed a dear circle of friends in Madison, interacting often with neighbors and enjoying frequent lunches with longtime exercise pals.  She loved opera and classical music, particularly the symphony, and attended church with an ear to the chorus renditions offered. She was a lifelong reader and faithful patron of the local library. She kept physically fit and active, enjoying neighborhood walks, and working in her yard.   In her older years, she loved spectating televised sports events of all sorts, particularly the ones her grandson Collin was attending, and watching football with her daughter Robin anytime Alabama played.

She was always, always there in the clutch for her family, never blinking an eye at any

seemingly insurmountable situation, never expecting anything but ultimate and complete success. She was a rare person, a remarkable force of nature.
