Dorothy Ellen Strudel Newman

Dorothy Ellen Strudel Newman, affectionately known as Dot or Nanny, passed away on Monday, October 9, 2023, in Huntsville, Alabama.  

Dot was born on April 26, 1939, in Athens, Georgia. She was the second child of Evelyn O. and Charles W. Strudel. She grew up in Neptune Beach, Florida where she attended Duncan U. Fletcher High School and met the love of her life Johnny Newman. Johnny and Dot were married on May 29, 1959, and shared over 60 years together until his passing in June of 2019. 
 
She is survived by her children Charles Newman (Brigitte), John Newman Jr. (Tracie), Julie Dixon (David), and Dotti Courtney (Richard), 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren and brothers Bill Strudel and Rusty Strudel. She was preceded in death by her loving husband John Newman, her daughter Elizabeth Newman, and her sister Betty Grammer.  

A beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Dot touched the lives of everyone she encountered.  A family gathering will be held at a later date to celebrate Dorothy's life.
