Dr. Michael Joseph Neeley, a man of many talents and passions, passed away peacefully at his home in Madison, AL on February 5th, 2024. He was born on August 30th, 1959 in Huntsville, AL, where he spent his childhood and formed lifelong connections with family and friends.
Mike had a remarkable career that spanned various fields. He first entered the world of aviation by flying prisoner extradition for Morgan and Limestone Counties. From there, he worked with M&M Air Service and Itec, Inc., honing his skills as a pilot. In 1985, Mike achieved the impressive feat of becoming a Line Captain dual qualified for two different aircraft.
His passion for flight eventually led him to work as a Flight Engineer for DHL Airways from 1986 to 1989. However, Mike's love for music brought about a change in direction. He became the Director of Flight Operations Chief Pilot for the renowned music group AlabamA, responsible for coordinating all ground transportation until they sold their plane in 1994.
Mike's thirst for knowledge and new experiences didn't stop there. In 1994, he decided to embark on a new career path as a Doctor of Acupuncture. He pursued his education diligently, completing his Pre-Medical studies at Calhoun Community College before attending the prestigious Bastyr University of Naturopathic and Oriental Medicine in Seattle, WA in 1996.
Mike's dedication to learning culminated in the completion of his Doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbology from the Academy of Oriental Medicine in Austin, TX in January 2001. With his newfound expertise, he opened an acupuncture practice in Huntsville later that same year.
Throughout his life's journey, Mike showcased not only his intelligence and diverse skill set but also his compassionate nature towards others. He was known as a kind, loving, and supportive friend, brother, son, and husband. Mike's generosity knew no bounds, always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
One person who held a special place in Mike's heart was his younger brother Billy. Together, they embarked on countless flying adventures that filled their lives with laughter and unforgettable stories. Their bond was unbreakable. Additionally, Mike shared a unique connection with his father Jack, who proudly served as his best man at Mike's wedding.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Jane Neeley. Mike leaves behind a loving wife Cindy Neeley, step-children Adam Olson and Kaylee Hocking, and grandchildren Leah and Kody Hocking. He also leaves behind his Father Jack Neeley stepmother Carlene Neeley, brother Billy Neeley, sister-in-law Amy Neeley, as well as nieces and nephews Colter Neeley, and his wife Sarah, Madison Neeley, Kyle Neeley, Molly Neeley, and great-nephews William and Wesley Neeley. Aunts Carolyn Crow, Rosalee Hoskins, Ruby Neeley were among the many other cherished family members who will forever remember the impact Mike had on their lives.
Dr. Michael Joseph Neeley was a remarkable individual who touched the lives of many people through his diverse career choices and unwavering devotion to those he loved. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing him. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the eternal skies he once soared through with great passion and skill.
Mike's Celebration of Life Service will be on February 24th, 2024 at 1 pm. at Movement Church 1469 Browns Ferry Rd. Madison, AL 35758. Reception to follow at the Best Western 9035 Madison Blvd. Madison, AL 35758. There is a back entrance.
