Mrs. Ellen Ruth Edgar Walker, age 76, of Madison, AL, formerly of Boaz, AL, passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2023.
She was born in Bryan, TX, on August 4, 1947, to James D. and Frances Green Edgar.
Ellen was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Madison, AL. Previously she was a member of First Baptist Church, Boaz, AL, for many years.
She worked at Mueller Company for 31 years.
Ellen and her husband, Doyce, enjoyed traveling together, having spent many days going places in their motorhome. They went to places nearby in the Southeast, as well as Alaska, Montana, Colorado, California, the Grand Canyon, and the Northeastern states.
Ellen and Doyce spent time with nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and great nephew over the years. All of them loved her dearly and enjoyed fishing, hiking, camping, and picnics.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed being a member of her book club for many years. After moving from Boaz to Madison, she continued to attend as long as she was able.
Ellen has had more friends than can be counted, and maintained these friendships for years. They continued to keep in touch with her through cards and phone calls even when she was no longer able to get out.
One of her greatest pleasures in life was going on “sister trips” with Sylvia and Robyn. Occasionally we let Doyce go if he behaved himself. Her last two trips were to San Antonio TX and Estes Park, CO.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Frances Edgar, father, James Edgar, husband of 41 years, Doyce Walker, son, Jason Walker, nephew Jamie Long, and brother-in-law, John Long.
Ellen is survived by her sisters, Robyn Long and Sylvia Burks (husband Deland Burks), nieces Heather Burks (husband Michael Simpson); Audrey Ostrander (husband Jeff Ostrander); nephews Ronald Long, Evan Long, and Braden Burks (wife Kala Burks); seven great nieces, Sophie, Penny, Ruth Long, Anna and Myra Ostrander, Charlotte Simpson, Freya Burks and one great nephew, Ben Ostrander; cousins Leslie Arnold, Lori Green, Steven Hallman, Scott Hallman, and Nina Ferguson; uncle Douglas Green.
