Frank J Cechovic, Jr. (age 90), formerly of Crown Point, IN and Springhill, FL, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 25, 2025, in Huntsville, AL.
Frank was born in Hammond, IN on August 8, 1934. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1953 where he served 4 years. Frank married Luella Malachowski on Aug 27,1955 and they were fortunate to be together just shy of 54 years!
Frank worked at LTV Steel mill for 42 years. He demonstrated to his family an amazing work ethic by working swing shift his whole career at LTV and frequently working doubles and triples to save for vacations and other extras. He provided well for his family and enjoyed a nice vacation with them annually. However, much to the chagrin of his 3 sons, every 4 or 5 years he would earn 13 weeks of vacation and always kept the boys busy with chores over school summer breaks!
After retiring, Frank enjoyed living in the sunshine and beauty of Springhill, FL with Lou. They met many wonderful people there and enjoyed going out with their group of friends for happy hour each week.
Frank enjoyed fishing, wood working, lending a helping hand to anyone who needed it, watching sports, traveling to visit his sons, and just “puttering” around his house.
Frank is survived by his three sons, Jeff, Madison, AL; Scott (Tina), Madison, AL; Doug (Debbie), Hagerstown, MD; grandchildren Jeffery, Perry, IA; Rachel (Damon) Bolt, Colorado Springs, CO; Ryan (Kayla), Madison, AL; great grandchildren Riley, Remy, Rebel, Caiden, Baker, and Reece; and one brother, Bernard (June), Florence MT.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Anna; his beloved wife, Luella; his favorite dog, Kirby; his grandson, Michael; and his sister, Lorraine Meyer.
Visitation will be at noon on Friday, May 23 with a service to follow at 1pm at Legacy Chapel, 16 Hughes Rd. Madison, AL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The Russel Hill Cancer Foundation’s Patient Assistance program at russelhill.org or Russel Hill Cancer Foundation 3601 CCI Drive, Huntsville, AL 35805 in memory of Frank.
