Henry Joseph Moeller, 90, of Huntsville, AL, passed away August 29, 2025, surrounded by family, love, laughter and prayer. He was born on July 14, 1935, to Dora Marie (Uhlig) and Joesph Peter Moeller in Valhalla, NY. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Sonja (Johnsen); their children, Paul Moeller (wife Cindy), Karen Moeller Lele, and Lynne Crank (husband Rob); their eight grandchildren, Michael Moeller (wife Samantha), Andy Moeller, Kristi Henry (husband Chris), Ashley Scarpetta (husband Cody), Blake Crank (wife Liz), Abbey Crank, Isabella Lele and Alex Lele; their three great-grandchildren, Sydney Grace Moeller, Anna Crank and Logan Henry; and his brother Peter Joseph Moeller (wife Kathy). He is preceded in death by his parents. Henry’s career centered around the science, engineering and technology supporting NASA in the development and implementation of the Skylab Hydrogen Alpha Telescope and the development and long-term support missions of the monumental Hubble Space Telescope. After serving in the US Navy and attending Iona College, Henry began a stellar engineering career at Norden Systems, Perkin-Elmer, Hughes and Raytheon. He was a trusted engineer, system implementer, and logistical trainer. His work assignments took him and his family to Connecticut, Alabama, Florida and Maryland. Henry had prominent roles in the optical system development, full system assembly, implementation, mission support and astronaut training of these powerful space-based telescopes. He supported the Hubble Space Telescope well into his 70’s when he reluctantly retired. Upon his retirement, Henry returned to Huntsville, Alabama where he and Sonja enjoyed their life together, with family, with work-out partners at the Wellness Center, and get-aways to Auburn and Destin.

Henry was a selfless husband, father and grandfather. He cherished time with his family, always finding time to support his family and their activities. If someone needed help with fixing their car, moving, repairing almost anything, in need of encouragement, love and understanding, he was there. Henry especially loved attending his grandchildren’s activities and sporting games and dance recitals; he was there whenever possible. He was a dedicated follower of Auburn sports; he truly enjoyed taking Sonja and family to AU football and basketball games.
