Jacquelyn Demetrius Smith, affectionately known as Jackie, was born on August 14, 1970 in Mobile, Alabama. She departed this life to be with her Heavenly Father on August 24, 2023.
Jackie accepted Christ at the age of 12 and was baptized at Arlington Street Missionary Baptist Church in Mobile, Alabama.
Inherently a scholar, Jackie graduated with honors from B.C. Rain High School in 1988. She graduated from The University of Alabama with honors in 1992, receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science, with minors in English and Spanish. She graduated from The University of Alabama School of Law on an academic scholarship in 1995. There she received the Arthur Davis Shores Award and Presidential Service Award. She is also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
Jackie’s professional law career began in 1996 with Figures, Jackson, & Harris, P.C in Mobile, AL. From there, she moved to Birmingham, AL to work with Simon, Borden, Singer & Heidt, P.C. After partnering with Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, P.C., she established her own practice in 2007- Law Offices of Jacquelyn D. Smith, LLC.
In 2010, Jackie married Robert Gibson and they welcomed their daughter, their pride and joy, Morgan Elise Gibson. In 2013, she united her family and law offices in Madison, Alabama.
Jackie is preceded in death by her father: Theodore Smith; sister: Emerald Smith; grandmother: Hattie Pharr Tinsley; aunt: Annie Molette.
Jackie leaves to cherish her memory, devoted husband: Robert Gibson; loving daughter: Morgan Gibson; loving and devoted mother: Flora Blanks, Mobile, AL; devoted sisters: Tanya Smith, Wendy (Maurice) Nickles, Huntsville AL, and Alyssa Blanks, Mobile, AL; devoted brothers: Theodore Smith, Enoch (Greta) Smith, and Josh Smith, Mobile AL; aunt, Brenda Pharr, Killeen, TX and Bernice Russell, Mobile, AL; uncles: Charles (Estella) Pharr, Prichard, AL, James Smith, Montgomery, AL, and Robert Lee Tinsley, Kingston, NY; devoted friend: Kim Malone, Atlanta, GA; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends;
Jackie’s infectious smile and quick-witted sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
