Judith Elizabeth Pike

April 26, 1938 — January 3, 2026

Madison

Judith Elizabeth Pike from Madison, Alabama died peacefully in Huntsville, Alabama on January 3, 2026, surrounded by family. She was 87 years old.

Judy was born on April 26, 1938, in South Weymouth, Massachusetts, the first child of Dorothea T. (MacDonald) and George L. O’Brien. Judy graduated from Rockland High School in 1956 and attended the Chandler School in Boston. She loved to tell stories about hanging out with her friend Jane and flirting with the DJ at the radio station in Boston.

She was married for 62 years to William L. Pike and celebrated their anniversary on September 23, 2023, shortly before his passing on September 30, 2023. She married Bill in 1961 at Holy Family Church in Rockland, Massachusetts. The couple built a house in East Bridgewater, Massachusetts and spent weekends at their Cottage in Sunset Lake (Alton Bay), New Hampshire. Their three children Billy, Deborah and Derek were born while living there. In 1976 the family relocated to Lantana, Florida and finally settled in Webster, Florida in 1981. In 2021 Bill and Judy had a home built in Bushnell Florida and lived there until finally joining Deborah, Derek, and their families in Alabama in 2023.

Judy started out her career as a secretary at Rockland High School. When she moved to Webster with her family in 1981 she was hired as a secretary at Project Health, Inc. a non-profit community health center. At that time the facility was contained in two trailers. Over the years it grew and changed from Project Health to Thomas Langley Medical Center and later Langley Health Services. Judy moved from secretary to executive secretary and finally Director of Human Resources before retiring after almost 30 years of service.

An avid reader, you could often find Judy lounging in her recliner completely captivated by a good book, usually by James Patterson or David Baldacci. When Derek would call and ask, “are you sleeping in your chair again” she delighted in telling him “no, I am reading a book.” (Honestly, she might have been napping, but we won’t tell!). If she wasn’t reading, she was usually arguing with her tablet when the computer playing against her in Scrabble put a word that she didn’t like. Judy loved to play games. Whether it was Chutes and Ladders when her grandkids were little or Uno, Scrabble, Spoons or Sorry, she was a fierce competitor. She loved to brag how she introduced the family to the game “Exploding Kittens.”

A die-hard NFL Football fan, she loved Tom Brady, the Patriots and her favorite team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Plans were re-arranged around her Sunday and Monday night games, and it was not unusual to hear her yell at the TV when players made a mistake. Not only did she love football, but she was a seasoned cruiser. Judy loved to go on cruises with the Red Hatters. She would share stories of all the adventures she had with her friends, the outfits they brought and the laughter they shared.

She is survived by her children Billy (Pearl), Deborah and Derek (Tanya). She has five grandchildren she adored including Tyler, Logan, Lauren, Katie, and Abi. Nothing was more important to her than her family, and she was incredibly proud of all of them.

She is survived by her sister Kathie and multiple nieces and nephews. Judy is preceded in death by her husband (Bill), her sister (Terry) and her parents.

In lieu of flowers her family requests that you donate a book to a library, a nursing home, a school or other organization. https://www.hmcpl.org/give

She will be buried at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama with Bill.
