In Loving Memory of Karla Michelle Altamirano-Hernandez
December 26, 2003 - June 16, 2026
With heavy hearts and profound love, we announce the passing of our beloved Karla Michelle Altamirano-Hernandez on June 16, 2026, at the age of 22, after a courageous battle with leukemia. Born in Decatur, Alabama, Karla was a beacon of light and joy to all who had the blessing of knowing her.
Karla was the cherished daughter of Erika Hernandez and Romeo Altamirano-Rodriguez, who, along with her siblings Erik, Andy, Alex, and Mia, will forever hold her memory close. Her family, including her grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends, mourns her loss but celebrates the beautiful life she lived. She is preceded in death by her grandfather, Hilario Altamirano, who now welcomes her with open arms.
A proud graduate of Sparkman High School in 2023, Karla went on to complete her Medical Assistant certification in 2025, a testament to her dedication and passion for helping others. Her professional journey was only just beginning, but her impact on those around her was already profound.
Karla's creativity knew no bounds. She found joy in painting, drawing, and embroidery, expressing herself in these activities. Her love for the arts was matched only by her love for movies and TV shows, which she often enjoyed while surrounded by family and friends. Karla’s laughter was infectious, and her ability to bring smiles to those around her was a gift she generously shared.
Known for her beautiful soul and caring nature, Karla was incredibly funny, loving, kind, selfless, and honest. She was truly one of God’s best, and the world is dimmer without her presence. Her selfless spirit and unwavering honesty inspired all who knew her, leaving a legacy of kindness and love.
A service to honor and celebrate Karla’s life will be held at 2 PM on June 23, 2026, at the Legacy Chapel Funeral Home, located at 16 Hughes Rd, Madison, AL 35758. We invite all who knew and loved Karla to join us in remembering the incredible person she was.
Visitation with the family will be from 11 AM until 2 PM prior to the service.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the compassionate staff, nurses, and doctors at UAB for their dedicated care and kindness during Karla’s battle. They also extend heartfelt thanks to the friends and loved ones who have provided support during this incredibly difficult time.
As we gather to celebrate Karla’s life, let us find comfort in the words of John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
Karla, you were a blessing in all our lives. Your memory will forever remain in our hearts, a guiding light in our darkest moments. Rest in peace, dear Karla. You are loved beyond measure and missed beyond words.
