Kelly Ann Nielsen, 61, passed away peacefully at home on May 26, 2023, in Madison, Alabama, surrounded by her family. She was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Ronald and Enid Wegener on July 26, 1961. She graduated from McHenry High School. She married James Nielsen on April 16, 1988, and had 2 children, Lindsay and Paige.
Kelly was a devoted mother and nana, a supportive friend and a staple to the community, who always put others before herself. She had the gift of hospitality and made all of her family and friends feel welcomed, loved, and cared for. She was known for her kind heart, infectious laugh, and her unwavering spirit, which touched the lives of everyone she met. She was the definition of acts of service, being active in many community initiatives such as Madison County Relay for Life supporting the American Cancer Society, The Huntsville-Madison County Hospitality Association, organizing annual blood drives with LifeSouth, amongst many others.
We all looked to her as the foundation of our family, and have many fond memories because of her ability to bring people together and celebrate even the smallest things. She will be greatly missed here on earth, but her legacy will be carried on, and we know that she is at peace and fully healed, celebrating with the Lord.
Kelly is survived by her husband, James Nielsen, her daughters, Lindsay Sippel (Ryan) and Paige Nielsen, her grandchildren Messer Sippel and Georgia Sippel, her parents, Ronald and Enid Wegener, and her siblings, John Wegener (Lisa), Edward Wegener (Jen), Christopher Wegener (Julie), and Phillip Wegener (Kelli).
Visitation will begin at 12 P.M. on Friday, June 2, 2023, at Legacy Chapel Funeral Home and Crematory with a Chapel service to immediately follow (on-site) at 2:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that you make donations to The Madison County Relay for Life in honor of Kelly Nielsen. https://secure.acsevents.org/site/SPageServer/?pagename=relay_donate_now&FR_ID=105529
