March Elaine Nelson Stierwalt, 68, of Madison, AL, passed away on Jan 23 due to serious injuries from a pedestrian car collision. She left her earthly life surrounded by her husband and two sons.
March was born on Feb 16, 1957, in Rome, Ga, daughter of Charles and Bertie Nelson.
March graduated from Coosa High School, then went on to Shorter College, earning her BS degree in Natural Science (Biology). While at Shorter she was very active in the Epsilon Sigma Sorority.
March was married to Robert F. (Fred) Stierwalt. They were married on March 17, 1979, at Garden Lakes Baptist Church in Rome, Ga. March and Fred had two sons, Thomas and Robert Jr. Robert Jr is married to Elizabeth Brae Stierwalt, and they have two children, Easton and Lorelai. Easton and Lorelai were deeply loved by their “Gigi” and spent many wonderful days together.
Shortly after they were married, she became a military spouse as Fred joined the Air Force. March traveled with him for assignments in Ohio, California, Wyoming, and Virginia. She was especially proud to serve on several Officer’s Wives Club committees on multiple bases. She also served in the American Red Cross at multiple locations as well. She was a good military spouse who loved experiencing the culture of their many distinct locations.
March was also an artist and genuinely enjoyed painting, especially China painting. She was also a gifted craftsperson who especially enjoyed making special items for her grandchildren and the local nursing home. March’s favorite time of the year was Christmas, and she had a collection of over four hundred Santa Claus statues and figurines. She was also an avid Coca Cola memorabilia collector with a very extensive collection.
March was a member of CrossPointe Church in Madison, Alabama.
Remaining to cherish March’s memory are her spouse (Fred), sons (Thomas and Robert Jr), Daughter in law (Brae), her two grandchildren (Easton and Lorelai), her mother (Bertie), and her aunt (Tommie Anne).
Visitation will be held on January 28 at CrossPointe Church, 78 Hughes Road, Madison, AL from 1:30 – 3:00 pm. Celebration of Life service will begin at 3:00 pm following visitation. Grave side service will be held on Jan 29 at Floyd Memory Gardens, 895 Cartersville Hwy SE, Rome, Ga, at 11:00 am.
Memorial donations in March’s memory may be directed to your favorite Charity or to the CrossPointe Benevolent Fund.
