Martha Kay Brown

April 28, 1951 — September 22, 2025

Huntsville

Martha Kay (Reed) Brown, age 74, of Huntsville, Al, was called to her Heavenly home on September 22, 2025. She was born on April 28, 1951, in Woodlawn, AL to the late Slaughter and Martha Reed. She was preceded in death by her sisters Mary (Dennis) Sisson and Sherry (Ronny) Bolt. Kay is survived by her adoring husband of 51 years, Ricky Brown, her children Michael (Randi) Brown and Marisa Brown Merritt, her siblings: George (Ann) Reed, Tommy (Carol) Reed and Susie (Jimmy) Pinyan, her brother-in-law, Bill (Janice) Brown and sisters-in-law: Wanda (Ken) Hall and Glenda Perich as well as a host of nieces and nephews. She was known as Nana to her beautiful grandchildren: Calei (Andrew) Hill, Kaylee Merritt, and great granddaughter, Jolee Ann Hill.

Kay graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1969 and began working for the Birmingham Public Library. One beautiful sunny day, while she was washing her Mustang, a young man drove by and just couldn’t believe his eyes. He circled the block until he got the courage to stop and talk to her. On September 12, 1974, after only a few short months of courtship, they were married at the Woodlawn Church of God by Rev. Curtis Silcox. In 1976, they welcomed their first baby boy and then 5 short years later, their daughter. To Kay, being a mother was the most important job she could ever have, so she stepped away from her career. Through the years, they attended Sherwood Church of God in Roebuck, AL until Ricky’s career with Brunos Supermarket moved them to Tennessee. A few short years later, they returned to Alabama to reunite with family and friends.

Kay’s passion in life was being an incredible mother and grandmother. She loved working in her beautiful flowers and watching Lifetime movies. In her later years, she loved to sit on the back patio and enjoy a good cup of coffee with her beloved. She so adored children and just lit up when they were around. During the holidays, Kay loved to decorate the most beautiful Christmas tree full of angels.

Kay was a devout Christian who loved Jesus with all her heart. She took every opportunity to spread the word of God and encourage everyone to give their heart to the Lord. Heaven has truly gained an angel. Kay’s warmth and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
