Ray Gene Looney, 72, of Harvest, Alabama, passed away on November 10, 2025.

Ray spent his life connecting with people. He built a long and successful career as a car salesman, working at many dealerships across Chattanooga, Tennessee. His honesty, humor, and easy charm made him unforgettable to coworkers and customers alike, and he formed friendships everywhere he went.

He is survived by his daughter, Rachel Appleby (Joey), with whom he shared an especially close and loving bond. Ray was preceded in death by his son, Michael Fulton, and is survived by his granddaughters, Bella and Ava. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Homer Gene Looney and Anna Rae Looney.

Ray was a lifelong supporter of all University of Kentucky sports, and his enthusiasm for the Wildcats helped inspire Rachel to attend the University of Kentucky, which he held close to his heart.

He was also deeply involved in the Sons of the American Legion, where he found community, purpose, and many treasured friendships. Ray was dedicated to the Legion’s mission and volunteered at numerous events over the years, always eager to lend his time and support.

Ray leaves behind family and friends who will forever feel his absence and who will carry forward his warmth, loyalty, and humor. His life was shaped by the relationships he built, the stories he shared, and the love he had for those closest to him.

A celebration of Ray’s life will be held on November 29th at 2 p.m. at VFW Post 1289 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Family and friends are invited to come together, share memories, and honor his legacy.
