Roman L. Chomskis, Command Sergeant Major, US Army Retired, was born on February 25, 1937 and passed away surrounded by loved ones on January 23, 2026 at the age of 88. He is survived by his treasured wife Patricia Chomskis, his children Gerard Chomskis, Nicole Fletcher (James Fletcher),Lisa Zalner (Bryan Zalner), Erick Chomskis, Phil Torlina, and Ed Torlina (Amy Lentini).

Twelve grandchildren, (Rowan Chomskis, Lucy Fletcher, Felix Fletcher, Megan Chomskis, Alyssa Taziole,Karley Chomskis, Gabby Chomskis, Sophia Chomskis, Gavin Chomskis, Lauren Torlina, Lindsey Torlina and Logan Allen).

Eight great-grandchildren, ( Annabella Taziole, Dylan Taziole, Luca Taziole, Declan Taziole, Easton Powers, Lilly Chomskis, Luca Torlina, and Charlotte Allen).

He is preceded in death by this Mother (Helena Chomskis), Father (Ferdinandas Chomskis) and Sister (Aldona Gelaznikas).

Roman served in the United States Army for over 26 years to include time in the Vietnam War. During his tenure he obtained several active-duty awards some of which include National Defense Service Medals (NDSM), Meritorious Service Medal (MSM), Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medals (RVNCM), Expert Infantryman Badge (EIB), Army Good Conduct Medals (AGCM), Vietnam Service Medals, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Commendation Medals, as well as many others. He was proud of his time serving his country and a true Army man.

Through his life Roman held cherished titles such as Dad, Husband, Brother, Uncle, Comrade, Papa Bear, Coach, Den Leader, Director of Camp Chomskis, Grandpa, Papa, neighbor and friend. He was a man of family and community. Roman married the love of his life Patricia on March 5, 1986 in St. Louis, MO in a whirlwind love at first sight, marriage for the ages. They went on to have two children, Gerard and Nicole whom Roman would do anything for. Roman enjoyed traveling the globe with family and friends to places like Alaska, Germany, Florida, Canada, Amsterdam, Virgin Islands, Mexico, Switzerland and France. When not globe-trotting he served his community and his church through various avenues to include organizing fundraisers and serving as a member of the Knights of Columbus. One of Roman’s most honored titles during his life was that of Coach. He spent over 20 years on the soccer field, learning to be the best Coach he could be for Gerard, Nicole and all willing to come play. He is known for his soft heart for others, showing up for family and friends no matter where they resided, and always lending a helping hand where he was able. He cared beyond words at times for his friends and family and will be deeply missed by all that loved him in return.

The visitation is scheduled for Friday Feb 20th from 5-7pm at Legacy Chapel Funeral Home on Hughes, Rd. A funeral mass will be held Saturday Feb 21st at 11am at the Most Merciful Jesus Catholic Church on Segers Rd. with Father Joy officiating. In Lieu of flowers, please donate in his name to the Mercy Parish Capital Campaign to continue his legacy of hard work towards the construction of Mercy’s new church building. A celebration of life party will occur Saturday evening from 6-9pm at Studio 53 on Mastin Lake Rd.
